As you wish High adventure and true love are two of the best things you could ever hope to find in a story, states Goldman, Author of The Princess Bride. In 1987 director Rod Reiner brought this classic tale to the big screen. The movie adaptation perfectly brings to life the ever-enduring love between the protagonists, Westley and Buttercup. Throughout the film the pair is faced with numerous trials and tribulations that could easily shake the bond between the lovers, yet they prevail. The Princess Bride is a classic tale of romance, one that acquired quite the cult following, but most watch for the quick quips or flashy sword fights; few bother to delve deeper into the film’s underlying message. This essay will explore how Goldman uses literary elements such as conflict, characterization, and mood to convey the somewhat clichà © theme of the work. This movie is easily one of the greatest examples of love conquering all obstacles. The films begins with a grandfather reading The Princess Bride to his sick grandson. Reiner utilizes the grandfather as a narrator throughout the movie.
